The EN388 Standard Explained: EN 388 - PROTECTIVE GLOVES AGAINST MECHANICAL RISKS

A complaint gloves protection against mechanical risks/hazards can be found on the shield pictogram with four numbers below. These numbers represent the gloves performance against specific hazards.

- ABRASION RESISTANCE: This represents the number of cycles required for stipulated sandpaper wheel under a     stipulated pressure to break through the glove. The gloves resistance to abrasion is indicated from levels 1 to 4.

CUT RESISTANCE: This is the number of cycles required for a blade to cut through the glove at a constant speed and   pressure. The gloves cut resistance factor is indicated from levels 1 to 5.

TEAR RESISTANCE: This is the amount of force required to tear the glove. The resistance to tearing is indicated from   levels 1 to 4.

PUNCTURE RESISTANCE: This is the amount of force required to pierce the glove with a standard sized point. The   resistance to puncturing is indicated from levels 1 to 4.
