All for the Irrigation Farmer – VETSAK’s Water-Wise Innovations
Water is life — and in farming, water is yield. For decades, VETSAK’s commitment to “Alles vir die Boer” was perhaps most visible in the irrigation solutions we offered. From the days of flood irrigation to the rise of pivots, pumps, and mobile systems, we worked to give every farmer the right tools for their land, crop, and water supply.
1960s to 1980s – Matching Solutions to Needs
In the early years, farmers using flood irrigation welcomed the arrival of Valley pivot and line systems — reducing labour, improving water use efficiency, and delivering more uniform results. Irrigation was becoming a science, and VETSAK was determined to keep farmers at the forefront.
Locally Made, Globally Inspired
Products like the South African–manufactured Stettyn crawlers allowed one person to irrigate strips up to 300 metres long, supplying 100 mm of water per month to fields of 12–25 hectares. Yanmar pumps became a common sight, known for “pumping not just water, but profit” for the farmer.
Taking the Donkey Work Out of Pumping
Monodompel submersible pumps, capable of moving anywhere from 500 litres to 100 000 litres per hour, cut back on manual labour. And when the wind didn’t blow for windpumps, portable Honda engines paired with Homelite generators kept the water flowing.
Irrigation on Wheels
Alumax’s rolling wheel systems made irrigation mobile, handling uneven ground with ease. The Italian-made Rovatti pumps offered farmers options across centrifugal, tractor-driven, vertical, electric, and submersible designs. And, of course, the green Lister engine was a familiar sight on farms where reliability mattered most.
A Complete Water Solution
From pumps and pipes to sprinklers and pressure systems, VETSAK stocked everything needed for electrically driven systems and beyond. No matter the crop or the climate, we made sure farmers had the technology to turn water into growth — and growth into prosperity.
