Celebrating 75 Years of Driving Solutions

From VETSAK to Agrinet

This year marks a milestone that few companies ever reach — Agrinet is turning 75. It’s a moment to celebrate not only the years but the people, the partnerships, and the progress that have brought us here.

Our story began in 1950, when VETSAK — short for Vrystaat en Transvaalse Sentrale Aankoop Koöperasie — was established to negotiate volume purchases on behalf of agricultural cooperatives in the Free State and Transvaal regions. The mission was clear: strengthen the farming community by ensuring they had the best products at the best prices. Over time, that mission grew into something much bigger.

In 1996, recognising the need to be a truly national player in South Africa’s agricultural supply chain, VETSAK acquired the trade division of Boeresake in the Cape. That division operated under the name Agrinet. Along with the acquisition came the rights to use the Agrinet name — a name that spoke to broader horizons and a future beyond regional boundaries.

Since then, Agrinet has evolved into a nationwide wholesale solutions provider for the agricultural, hardware, and related industries. We’ve expanded our product ranges, grown our logistics capabilities, and built lasting relationships with both local and international brands. Our journey has been defined by constant adaptation, while staying true to the values that made VETSAK a trusted name in the first place.

This month, we’ll be sharing stories from our history — from the people who have been with us for decades, to the innovations that shaped industries, and the moments that defined who we are. We’ll take you from our earliest days as VETSAK, through the expansion years, and right into the present, where Agrinet continues to drive solutions for businesses across South Africa.

Here’s to the past 75 years — and to the next 75, built on the same foundation of integrity, service, and innovation.
