Celebrating South African Innovation – GuanoBoost in the Heritage Month Spotlight
September is Heritage Month in South Africa, a time to reflect on the people, products, and ideas that shape our country’s story. At Agrinet, we are proud to partner with local supplier brands that not only deliver exceptional quality but also carry the spirit of South African ingenuity, resilience, and sustainability into everything they do.
This month, we’re putting the spotlight on GuanoBoost, a proudly South African brand turning natural resources into powerful solutions for greener gardens and healthier crops. In our conversation with the team, they shared their story, values, and what it means to be a local supplier making a difference in communities and industries across the country

1. Let’s start at the beginning. How did your brand get started, and what inspired its creation?
GuanoBoost was born out of a passion for sustainable agriculture and a desire to help South African gardeners, farmers, and landscapers grow stronger, healthier plants, without harming the environment. Our journey started with a simple yet powerful idea: harness the natural goodness of seabird guano, a nutrient-rich organic fertiliser, and make it accessible in convenient, effective forms. We wanted a solution that could deliver impressive results, be easy to use, and support healthier soil for future generations.
2. What makes your products proudly South African?
Every part of GuanoBoost reflects South Africa’s unique character, from our locally sourced raw materials to the innovative, proudly South African product designs like our liquid concentrate, granules, Shademaster Lawn Seeds and sprayer bottles. Our manufacturing is done locally, employing South African hands and skills, and we take pride in working with suppliers who share our values of quality, sustainability and community growth.
3. How does your brand contribute to the South African economy and local communities?
We actively support the South African economy by sourcing, producing and packaging our products locally. This means every bottle of GuanoBoost you buy helps sustain local jobs, keeps money circulating in our economy, and strengthens agricultural and garden-related industries. We also work closely with garden centres, nurseries and retailers across the country, ensuring our success directly benefits small businesses in our communities.
4. In your own words, why do you think it’s important for South Africans to support local businesses and brands?
Supporting local means investing in ourselves. It’s about creating opportunities for our people, preserving the uniqueness of our products and building an economy that works for all South Africans. Every rand spent on a local brand helps families thrive, keeps traditional skills alive, and fuels innovation that’s tailored to our climate, soil and lifestyle.
5. What’s been your proudest moment as a local brand so far?
Seeing GuanoBoost on the shelves of local garden centres and hardware stores, and hearing customers share how our products have transformed their gardens and lawns, has been incredibly rewarding. But our proudest moments are when we see thriving green spaces, from home gardens to sports fields, knowing we played a part in making them flourish sustainably.
6. How do you keep your products relevant and competitive in today’s market, while staying true to your roots?
We listen closely to our customers and stay attuned to market trends, ensuring our products remain effective, eco-friendly and easy to use. Innovation for us doesn’t mean losing our identity; it means finding smarter, more convenient ways to deliver the natural, high-quality plant nutrition we’re known for. From improved packaging to expanded product ranges, we keep evolving without compromising on our commitment to sustainability and local sourcing.
7. How has being a South African brand shaped your company culture or the way you do business?
Our South African roots have instilled a culture of resilience, creativity and community-mindedness in everything we do. We understand the value of relationships, whether with our suppliers, retailers or customers, and we believe in offering practical, results-driven solutions that suit our unique environment. We also celebrate diversity and inclusivity, knowing that our strength lies in the people behind the brand.
8. If you could describe your brand’s role in the South African story in one sentence, what would it be?
GuanoBoost is here to help South Africans grow, from healthier lawns and gardens to stronger local communities, sustainable farming and a greener future.
9. Lastly, this Heritage Month is all about celebrating where we come from — what message would you like to share with South Africans about choosing local?
This Heritage Month, let’s honour our roots by nurturing them, literally and figuratively. Choosing local means investing in the soil beneath our feet, the people beside us and the future ahead of us. When you choose GuanoBoost, you’re not just feeding your plants; you’re feeding our shared South African story.
