From a Circle to a Gate – The Story Behind Our Icon

Every brand has a symbol, but few are as recognisable in agriculture as the VETSAK (and later Agrinet) gate emblem. It wasn’t just a design — it was a visual promise that the product carrying it had been tested, trusted, and approved for farmers.

1960s – The Birth of the Emblem
In the early 1960s, VETSAK realised the need for its own visual identity. Under the creative leadership of Piet de Jager and his team, the first emblem was born — a traditional five-bar farm gate encircled for a sense of completeness. It was sturdy, simple, and instantly connected to the farming life.

Colour with a Story
The bright orange of the emblem wasn’t random — it was taken directly from the 1964 Fiat tractor colour. That orange became synonymous with VETSAK products and served as a visible seal of quality for farmers.

Changing with the Times
As agriculture modernised, so did the emblem. The five-bar gate gave way to a more streamlined three-bar version, the circle was dropped, and the orange hue was brightened to an orange-red for better visibility.

From VETSAK to Agrinet
With the transition to Agrinet, the corporate colour shifted from orange to green. The word “Agrinet” was added to the logo, keeping the strong gate imagery while signalling a new era. Interestingly, even VETSAK’s tractor colour once had to change — from orange to a darker brown-red — after it was discovered some spray painters had allergic reactions to the orange pigment.

More Than a Logo
For decades, farmers recognised the gate emblem as a guarantee: the product had been weighed, tested, and was ready for work. It was — and remains — a mark of trust in our long-standing relationship with South African agriculture. Our gate stands for our promise – nothing goes through our gates without our stamp of expertise and approval.
