GET TO KNOW STICK ELECTRODES WITH BOHLER

Böhler, a AWC (African Welding Company) product, has produced some of the best electrodes in the market in recent years. Providing a solution for almost every welding project out there. Böhler has evolved into a household brand that ensures quality and affordability to its end user.

THE PROCESS BEHIND HOW WELDING ELECTRODES WORKS:

Electric arc welding with stick electrodes is one of the oldest and most versatile welding processes and is also considered one of the simplest and safest methods. It is used to weld almost all types of metals and dissimilar materials to each other. Specialists and qualified welders for underwater welding even use stick electrodes. For electric arc welding with stick electrodes, an electric arc is generated between the stick electrode and the base material. In shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or manual metal arc welding (MMA) using coated stick electrodes, the coating forms a protective gas shield. A slag acts as a scavenger to remove impurities out of the weld pool, thereby protecting the transferred metal droplets and the weld metal against contact with atmospheric oxygen which could contribute to porosity in the weld area.

Further functions of the coating are de-oxidation of the weld metal, increasing the metal recovery, compensating for burn-off, and ensuring good wetting behavior. In practical use, there are three significant types of coating: rutile, basic and cellulosic, and mixtures of these. It’s always a good principle to remember that an electrode should not be bent at any time as flux detachment in that area could lead to poor weld quality. There are many types of welding alloys used and widely available, including alloys made from aluminum, bronze, cast iron, cobalt, copper, magnesium, nickel, steel, titanium, and zirconium. Alloys are also made from a number of different combinations of these metals, and any blend is referred to as an alloy.

ALLOYS IN ELECTRODES:

Welding alloys, sometimes referred to as welding electrodes, must be compatible with the specific base material/s being welded.

BOHLER PUTTING IN THE EXTRA TO ENSURE QUALITY:

Böhler has always gone the extra mile to ensure its electrodes are of the highest quality, eliminating any external factors that might influence the quality of the end product. They’ve introduced a DRY SYSTEM into their packaging that is the efficient alternative for costly climate-controlled storage and handling procedure, providing “oven dry” stick electrodes straight from the vacuum packaging.

Using a strong foil made of multi-layered aluminium, the new Böhler Welding DRY SYSTEM offers maximum safety against loss of vacuum due to the undesired penetration of sharp objects during storage, transport, and use. Welders will see immediately if the electrodes are still oven dry. With the vacuum in place, electrodes are ready to use. The packs can be stored in any dry place where the packaging cannot get damage. The packaging is environmentally friendly. No plastic in the form of PE or PP Boxes is used at all.

LOW HYDROGEN

Every welder knows that the hydrogen content, moisture, is a decisive factor for reliable welding seam. This is the reason why Böhler not only produce stick electrodes with a low hydrogen content, but this also takes care that the coating does not absorb any moisture and offer our DRY SYSTEM premium packaging which ensures safe welding with low-hydrogen weld metal up to nine hours after opening. It’s critical to repack the electrodes after use as pe Böhler requirements.
