The Name That Took Us National

By the mid-1990s, Agrinet’s story was already decades in the making — though we were still trading under the VETSAK name. The business had grown far beyond its roots, reaching new regions, new industries, and new opportunities. Growth brings reflection, and in 1996, we reached a turning point: was the name we started with still the name that would take us into the future? The answer lay in a bold move.

1996 – A Turning Point
In that year, VETSAK purchased the trade division of Boeresake in the Cape — a business known as Agrinet. With this acquisition came a new chapter, and the decision was made to adopt the Agrinet name nationally. It was a brand that spoke to connection, reach, and a wider supply network — perfectly reflecting our role in linking suppliers to retailers and retailers to their customers.

Late 1990s – Strengthening Our National Footprint
The rebrand was more than just a name change. It signaled our commitment to being a national solutions provider, with a product range that went well beyond agriculture to serve hardware stores, co-operatives, and related industries across South Africa.

2000s – Investing in Capacity
Over the next decade, Agrinet invested in logistics infrastructure, expanded its product portfolio, and strengthened partnerships with suppliers and customers. Our Western Cape operations grew rapidly, adding new lines, expanding warehouse space, and improving delivery frequency to match customer demand.

A Name That Still Stands for Solutions
Today, Agrinet is known as much for our logistical expertise as for our extensive product range. The name change in 1996 was a pivotal step — one that positioned us for sustained growth and ensured we could continue delivering on our promise: driving wholesale solutions through products, partnerships, and performance.
