The VETSAK Ambassadors – More Than Sales Representatives
In agriculture, relationships matter as much as products. That’s why VETSAK created a role that went beyond sales — the Ambassadors. These were the people who carried the voice of VETSAK to every farm, co-operative, and field, making sure we stayed close to the farmers we served.
The Early Days
Unlike traditional sales reps, Ambassadors weren’t bound to a single area or product line. This gave them the freedom to represent VETSAK anywhere, anytime, building deep, wide-reaching connections.
On the Road
At first, Ambassadors used their own cars. Later, through a deal with Fiat, they received company Fiats — though these cars were notorious for mechanical quirks, leading to many lessons in Italian vocabulary! Eventually, Toyota became the preferred choice, and later still, some opted for Mercedes-Benz when vehicle allowances replaced company cars.
Before the Digital Era
In the pre-internet days, orders were handwritten and delivered or faxed to the office. Ambassadors often had “pagers” for urgent contact, and products were shipped by rail, with each co-operative having its own siding number. Some deliveries even went directly to nearby train stations for collection.
A Multifaceted Role
Ambassadors handled far more than sales. They monitored stock and purchasing needs, trained staff, promoted products through farm days and demonstrations, launched marketing programmes, advertised, assisted with testing new machinery, and provided on-site service at major agricultural shows.
The Human Connection
More than anything, Ambassadors embodied VETSAK’s promise to be present in the lives of farmers — not just as suppliers, but as partners in their success.
