THE WOLF-GARDEN STORY

Introducing WOLF-Garden, founded in 1922 in Germany. WOLF-Garden is now a synonym for the fascination and fun of gardening in many countries accross the Globe. This positive brand significance is the result of a commitment to implementing a clear corporate principle: making work in the garden easier through innovations, opening up new markets in the garden sector, and establishing a clear positioning of the brand.

It all began with minor inventions that put the WOLF company on the map. One of the first achievements was the draw hoe, a tool designed to make agricultural work easier. Gregor Wolf developed it in 1927 in the ironware factory that his father August Wolf had founded together with his sons Gregor and Otto in 1922. The idea first came to him on his way home from work, while observing local farmers working their fields

This initial innovation was followed by many others. In 1953 the WOLF Geräte GmbH was the first company in Europe to offer lawnmowers with rotating blades. In 1958 WOLF introduced the first electrical lawnmower to the European market prior to developing the world's most silent petrol lawnmower in 1975.

It was only in 1969 that Wolfs first electric lawnmower was introduced into South Africa. South Africans had to mow their infamously tough kikuyu grass with either a manual push mower, or, for the lucky gardeners, a petrol engine powered mower. In 1969 Wolfs electric mowers were launched, available mainly from furniture stores back in those days!

The Wolf electric mower sold in the shops for R65 and the grass box sold separately at R25. South African gardeners were used to raking up the clippings so the idea of a grass box was new. Demonstrations at gardeners homes and trade shows were commonplace back then to prove the efficiency of electric mowers.

The Wolf range has evolved over the years to include petrol mowers, electric and petrol trimmers, vacuums, Brushcutters, pressure sprayers and garden tools. The iconic red and yellow Wolf colours can be seen in many South African gardens and represents quality, innovation and service back up.

The Wolf family remain involved in our S.A market to this day, with Tandem Industries manufacturing, marketing and supporting the Wolf brand.
